30 Things ~ Question 20 ~ Childhood

For the complete list of the 30 Things, please go to the original post here.

20. Describe 3 significant memories from your childhood.

I have many, many memories from my childhood. Some good, some bad. Since this is asking for significant, I will post whichever ones I feel stood out the most.
  • When I was going into 6th grade ( I was about 11 going on 12), my older sister was sent off to boarding school. She was what most would call an out of control teenager. It hurt though when this happened. I don't completely remember my mother talking to me and my brother about it much, it just happened. She was sent to an all girls, Catholic school about an hour or so from us. It stunk as a teen because I had no clue what it was like to have her around all the time. Sure, she came home on some weekends and on holidays, but we didn't have any kind of bond. She went out to be with her friends ALL the time. Me and my brother complained about this a lot. It would have been nice to grow up with her but we most likely would not have gotten along, since when she was gone I was always accused of taking her stuff or breaking things anyway.
  • Snowball fights and playing in the snow with my brother. So much fun. I wasn't ever really allowed to go over friends' houses much (probably thanks to my mom thinking the way my sister was) so I played with my brother 90% of the time. I loved (and still do) winter and snow. I remember building a Mickey and Minnie Mouse version of snowmen in our "yard". They were small, but I loved them. I worked so hard on them while everyone else on the block was doing who knows what. I remember telling one of the boys to please not ruin it and of course he did eventually.
  • Spelling bee. When I was in 2nd grade, our school had a spelling bee. It included all grades. I had actually beat all the kids my grade and had moved up to the older grades. I will always remember the word that got me and I remember right after spelling it, thinking "oh no, that's the wrong one!". It was the word their or they're or there. Whichever one it was, I spelled it with one of the others. I was so upset at myself. Everyone else in the school though, was so impressed with me. My sisters whole class was cheering me on (6th graders). I won some kind of prize too so I must have come in some sort of place. I got a duffel bag with a Snow White popup book (I still have it), a dictionary, oreos and some other little things in it.

Here is wee little me!

I've also been restricted, or punished ahead of time, based on what a sibling did. It was very frustrating. Do you talk to your sister now?
